The 2009 edition of Hora Aviv, which was probably the last, was held in the heart of the capital of Delaware, Dover, which is down the peninsula of the state as we all found out. The disk coordinator assumes that you enjoyed the facilities of the Wilmington Conference Academy! You remember a different name for the college? Wesley College, scene of the 2009 Hora Aviv Memorial day weekend Israeli dance camp, began in 1873 as the Wilmington Conference Academy and over the years has morphed into its present name. Weekend participants, if staying over, were housed in Malmberg Hall which serves as the school's dormitory while the dancing and dining occurred in the H. B. duPont College Center. The school has an enrollment of 2500 as of the last semester, although for the Memorial Day weekend, it was only populated by Israeli dancers who arrived from various locales including the Washington area, Norfolk, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Chicago and New York. The choreographers present were Shlomo Maman (who apparently has never missed a Hora Aviv weekend), Yaron Ben-Simchon and Mimi Cogan. Additional teaching was done by Danny Uzial and Howie Goldman. Music programming for the sessons and the dance nights was provided by Rob Markowitz and Don Schillinger.
Some specifics are required for those keeping count: Friday the nightime session lasted to 2:00AM, Saturday to 4AM and Sunday to 3AM. At least 14 dances were taught with Shlomo teaching several that he has created. Saturday night's dinner had a Middle Eastern aura and Sunday's lunch was a barbecue (some pictures of which are below). The administration of the weekend was done by Shmuel Batzri and his son, Ron.
You may not have realized it, but the disk coordinator (in the guise of his top secret identity) surreptitiosly snapped the following pictures of some of the activities during the weekend. So, below is a few pictures of Hora Aviv with a little play by play.
